Backing pads live a tough life – they see heat, compound, pad changes and accidental knocks against mirrors, trims and badges. Once the pad is out of round, the hook and loop is peeling or the thread is damaged, the machine will never feel quite right. Swapping to a genuine POL04-SK17 backing pad is often one of the simplest upgrades you can make to improve the way the polisher behaves on the panel.

This pad is sized around 150mm, which strikes a good balance between coverage and control. It is ideally matched to 150mm foam or microfibre pads for general correction and finishing work on bonnets, doors, roofs and bakkies, while still being manageable on tighter areas with some care and pad choice.

Pro Tip: Keep a dedicated backing pad for cutting and another for finishing – this helps keep the hook and loop face clean and reduces the chance of coarse compound contaminating your soft finishing pads. Always spin the pad by hand before switching on to confirm it is centred properly and check that the hook and loop faces are free from dried compound and debris.
